Trilogy Health planning senior living, rehab in Plainfield Township

BELMONT — Trilogy Health Services LLC is planning to construct a new senior living and rehabilitation center in Plainfield Charter Township.

The Belmont facility would be at 6081 West River Drive NE, on the northwest corner of West River and Jupiter Avenue, which is currently a vacant lot, said Matt Cole, senior civil engineer for Paradigm Design Inc.

Paradigm is serving as the civil engineering firm on the project.

Cole said his firm is seeing a need for resources for seniors. Paradigm and Trilogy Health recently began construction on another senior living and medical facility in Byron Township, at 64th Street and Byron Center Avenue.

“We are showing that there’s a need, especially for a little bit more of the higher-end type of facility,” Cole told MiBiz.

The Plainfield Township facility is proposed at 62,731 square feet, including 22 independent living rooms, 31 assisted living rooms and 54 skilled care rooms in a two-story building.

If the project gets a planned unit development amendment from the Plainfield Township Planning Commission and township board, the company expects construction to begin this summer, Cole said.

Trilogy Health Services takes on the project amid an aging population in the U.S. and West Michigan.

In 2017, about one-quarter of the population in Kent, Ottawa, Muskegon and Allegan counties was between 45 and 64 years old, up from 20 percent at the turn of the century, according to Grand Valley State University’s annual HealthCheck report. The 65 and older population as of 2017 was nearly 15 percent, up from around 11 percent a decade earlier.

Long-term shifts in age demographics and population distribution “have significant effects on the consumption of health care services,” according to the 2019 HealthCheck report.
