GRAND RAPIDS — The Gerald R. Ford International Airport said today it was adding its 27th direct flight with a new route to Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport from Allegiant Air.

The new twice-weekly route will launch on April 5, 2019, according to a statement.

With the addition of Sarasota, low-cost carrier Allegiant will offer seven direct flights from the Ford Airport. Allegiant also flies to Las Vegas, Phoenix, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers and Tampa from Grand Rapids.

“There is no greater way to please West Michigan travelers than to announce service to Florida’s Gulf Coast right as our winter season is gearing up,” Tara Hernandez, marketing and communications director at Gerald R. Ford International Airport, said in a statement.

Allegiant first started serving the Grand Rapids market in 2009.
