Grand Rapids-based general contracting firm Wolverine Building Group today announced the start of an 18-month leadership transition that will culminate with two vice presidents assuming the role of co-presidents.
Current presidents and co-owners Mike Kelly and Dick VanderZyden will take the role of co-chairmen while vice presidents Curt Mulder and Aaron Jonker will take ownership of the company in January 2018, according to a statement.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Over the next 18 months, Mulder and Jonker will begin to take over day-to-day leadership of the company with the goal of having a seamless transition.
Once the ownership transition is complete, Kelly plans to retire while VanderZyden will remain with the company for another two years as chairman.
Mulder and Jonker will be Wolverine’s fifth generation of owners, according to the statement.
