Precision manufacturer to expand in Lansing

LANSING — An international high-precision manufacturer announced Thursday it would invest $14.5 million into a Lansing-based project, adding 160 jobs.

The investment from Symmetry Medical Manufacturing Inc., known as Tecomet, a leading provider of medical devices and aerospace and defense products, solutions and services, will be used to create a precision machining center and a 30,000-square-foot expansion at the company’s 5858 Enterprise Drive location, according to a statement.

“Tecomet is well positioned for continued growth in the medical device and aerospace and defense markets,” stated John Helmuth, general manager of Tecomet Lansing.

The expansion project will be completed in December of 2018 if approved by the Lansing City Council and State Tax Commission.

“Michigan’s leadership in making things and making things work shines through in Tecomet’s new expansion of our medical and aerospace sectors. The decision by Tecomet to expand in Lansing demonstrates Michigan’s business-friendly environment and highly-skilled workforce,” Michigan Economic Development Corp. CEO Jeff Mason said in a statement.

According to its website, Tecomet was founded in 1963 and employs more than 2,000 people, including 400 people at its Lansing location.
