Gun Lake Casino details $76 million expansion

WAYLAND — The Gun Lake Tribal Gaming Authority has outlined plans for a $76 million expansion of its Gun Lake Casino south of Grand Rapids.

First announced in January, gaming executives today said in a statement that the 83,000-square-foot casino will expand by 73,000 square feet adding gaming capacity, expanded dining options and a new entertainment lounge, as well as a high-limit gaming room.

“This $76 million expansion will produce economic growth and more career opportunities for our tribal citizens and our friends and neighbors here in West Michigan,” said Ed Pigeon, acting chairman of the tribe and casino board, in a statement. “We are proud to make a significant investment in our property for the enjoyment of guests, which in turn will bring increased benefits to the local community.”

The expanded casino will add 100 new jobs, bringing the total headcount to more than 900 employees, according to the statement.

Ground was broken on the project in January and renovations are expected to be completed by the summer of 2017.

Lansing-based Clark Construction Co. is serving as the project’s construction manager.
