Bosch to close Emissions Systems facility in Kentwood

KENTWOOD — Bosch Emissions Systems US will shutter its Kentwood facility by Sept. 30, 2017.

The facility, located at 4700 Broadmoor Ave. SE in Kentwood, will permanently eliminate the positions of 150 workers as a result of the closure, according to a notice sent by the company to the state under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.

“The decision was made as a result of expiring contracts for the products being produced at the facility,” a spokesperson for Bosch wrote in an email to MiBiz.

Bosch Emissions Systems manufactures aftertreatment diesel engine emission systems for passenger cars.

The spokesperson for Bosch said the closure was not correlated with the recent emission scandals from Volkswagen and other automakers.

Bosch Emissions Systems has already alerted the employees impacted by the closure. Salaried employees will receive severance, according to the notice. None of the 150 employees have union representation.

Bosch also maintains its Robert Bosch Fuel Systems LLC operation at the 4700 Broadmoor Ave facility, which is expected to continue production and will not be affected by the closure.

Bosch Emissions Systems is the North American location of Stuttgart-Feuerbach, Germany-based Bosch Emission Systems GmbH & Co. KG. Both companies are subsidiaries of Gerlingen, Germany-based Robert Bosch GmbH.
