SpartanNash accepting customer donations toward cases of water for Flint residents

Byron Center-based SpartanNash Co. (Nasdaq: SPTN) will ask customers to donate $2.99 at the cash registers of all 91 of its Michigan stores to help bring water to residents in Flint.

Through Feb. 13, all of the customer proceeds collected by the grocery chain will go toward the cost of 24-pack cases of Spartan-branded bottled water, which will be sent to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan in Flint, according to a statement.

On Jan. 20, Teamsters Local 406 at SpartanNash’s distribution center in Grand Rapids donated one truckload of water to the food bank, a donation that was matched by the corporation for a total of 3,360 cases of water, according to the company.
