Second consecutive accolade for Details

GRAND RAPIDS - Details, a division of Steelcase, recently received a 2010 Green GOOD DESIGN Award for Eyesite, an innovative flat panel monitor arm that supports single and multiple flat panel displays. Eyesite was selected out of thousands of submissions from more than 46 nations as a product that exemplifies the qualities of green design.

This is the second consecutive year a Details product has been honored with a Green GOOD DESIGN Award. Last year, the company’s Kast LED Task Light earned the honor.

Eyesite has been manufactured with sustainability in mind, meeting Silver Cradle to Cradle specifications. The Eyesite Single/1-over-1 display is 99 percent recyclable at the end of its useful life and composed of 30 percent recycled material (23 percent post-consumer content and 7 percent pre-consumer). The Eyesite Dual/Triple displays are also 99 percent recyclable, but consist of 22 percent recycled content (17 percent post-consumer content and 5 percent pre-consumer).

"Our research found that users want the flexibility to add additional displays off of a single flat panel architecture," says Jeff Charon, a Details product category manager. "This ability to support changing technology is smart design – both for our customers and the environment"

The GOOD DESIGN Award program was founded in 1950 by architects Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, and Edgar Kaufmann Jr. The awards recognize designers and manufacturers for advancing innovation and originality. They are presented by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.

The purpose of the Green GOOD DESIGN Award is to emphasize the importance of sustainable design and to develop public awareness about which companies are leading the way.

"It’s an honor to earn our second consecutive Green GOOD DESIGN Award," said Details General Manager Bud Klipa. "These awards are a direct result of our product sustainability commitment. You truly can have both sustainability and great design."
