GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Jan. 9, 2012 – The Metro Health Hospital Foundation announced that Carol J. Karr, attorney with Miller Johnson, will chair the Board of Directors. Ms. Karr was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2004. In addition to being on the Executive Committee, she also served as Chair of the Grants Committee.

Ms. Karr has been practicing law since 1978 and earned her J.D. degree from Harvard Law School. She specializes in estate planning, probate, and estate, gift and fiduciary taxation. She is the chair of Miller Johnson’s preeminent Probate and Estate Planning Practice Group.

Ms. Karr is a Fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, a prestigious professional association, as well as a Fellow with the Michigan State Bar. She was honored as a “2010 Women in the Law” by Michigan Lawyers Weekly on its inaugural list. Also in 2010, she was named one of “50 Most Influential Women in West Michigan” by Grand Rapids Business Journal. Ms. Karr is listed in “The Best Lawyers in America®” in three areas: tax law, trusts and estates, and closely held companies and family business law. She has been named a Michigan “Super Lawyer” for estate planning and probate and also appeared on the Super Lawyer Top 50 Women list. She has been honored for her professional leadership and community involvement with a YWCA Tribute! Award and was named a “Thought Leader in the Law” by Business Review in 2009.

Ms. Karr is actively involved with other professional associations and community organizations including the Grand Rapids Community Foundation where she was the Board of Trustees Chair in 2011 and for the Metropolitan YMCA, where she was on the Board of Directors and is currently serving as Chair of the Heritage Club Committee. She participates in the Pro Bono Program of Legal Aid of Western Michigan.
