BATTLE CREEK — Kellogg Community College sophomore basketball player, Ron Bracey, was named National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American. Bracey is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, where he attended Withrow High School.

The six foot five, 220 lb forward led the Bruins this year in scoring, with an average just below 24 points per game. In his two years on the team, Bracey has scored over 1,000 points, one of a few Bruins to have scored more than 1,000 points in their JUCO career. Over his career, he has been named first team Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) All-Region and first team All-MCCAA Western Conference, two-time West MVP in the season-ending All-Star game, and, in 2010, he was second team All-Conference.

Bracey spends approximately two hours per day in the gym during the off-season and came in one hour before practice during the season to improve his game. He shoots at least 250 baskets per day and lifts weights regularly. He also credits KCC Men’s Basketball Head Coach McKnight for helping him to refine his game. “I like how Coach McKnight treated me while I was here. He yells at me more than anybody, but he also gave me the freedom to play my own game. That made me work harder,” said Bracey. “I’m very proud of him,” said KCC Men’s Basketball Coach, Melvin McKnight. “He always had to do more than the other players because I knew I could depend on him and that being able to play all positions would benefit him in the long run.”

Bracey also commented that he enjoyed his experience playing for Kellogg Community College. “This was a good stepping stone on my journey. We had some hard workers on the team and overall I learned a lot being here.” He is currently reviewing offers from several Division I schools to decide the next step in his journey. “I wish the best for him at the next level,” said McKnight.
