GRAND RAPIDS — Kathy Crosby, President & CEO of Goodwill Industries of Greater Grand Rapids, Inc., has been named the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce's 2011 ATHENA Award recipient. The prestigious ATHENA Award honors an individual who has demonstrated leadership in her/his field, mentored and opened doors of opportunities for women, and contributed time and talent to the community.

Seven prominent community and business leaders were nominated for the award this year, the 22nd year the award has been presented in the greater Grand Rapids community.

“Kathy Crosby leads an organization spanning eight counties in west and central Michigan with a budget of more than $25 million, says Rick Baker, President & CEO of the Grand Rapids Area Chamber

of Commerce. Goodwill has grown and been very successful during her tenure as CEO. What truly sets her apart, however, are the policies and culture she has created within the organization that help women reach their full potential, a major tenet of the ATHENA program.”

Throughout her 30-year career with the Goodwill Industries organization, Crosby has filled roles in various communities and has spent time on its International Board of Directors, Executive Committee and Leadership Development Committee. Given her acumen and dedication to the people served by the organization, she was named President & CEO in 2007.

In addition to her duties as CEO, Crosby is a mentor to high-potential employees in the Goodwill organization and others, including the Jandernoa Entrepreneurial Mentoring program. She also serves on the 2011 Campaign Cabinet of Heart of West Michigan United Way, the Huntington Bank Women's

Advisory Board, Varnum's Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council, and the boards of the Economic Club of Grand Rapids, and MARO, a state-wide non-profit association.
