GRAND RAPIDS — Marcia Warner, Director of the Grand Rapids Public Library was inaugurated as the 2011-2012 President of the Public Library Association (PLA) on June 28, 2011.
Warner has been a member of both the Public Library Association and the American Library Association for 25 years, serving on numerous committees and the PLA Board of Directors. She earned her Master? Degree in Library Science from the University of Michigan and has 30 years of experience as a library director including the Public Libraries of Saginaw and the City of Vassar Public Library. She has served as the Director of the Grand Rapids Public Library since 2004.
Since coming to Grand Rapids, Warner has lead the Grand Rapids Public Library in many areas including completing a new strategic plan, instituting policy changes around library cards and children? access and eliminating fees on media. Her job as Library Director entails developing and administering for board action both annual and long range plans, policies, procedures and annual budget; employee and union labor relations; supervising maintenance and improvement of buildings; and representing the board as liaison to funding authorities and various constituencies.
