GRAND RAPIDS — The Rotary Club of Grand Rapids today announced the appointment of Dawn Smith as Executive Director.

Smith's responsibilities will include leading the day-to-day operations of the Club the largest in Michigan and the implementation of its long-term strategic plans.  Her focus will also involve pursuing the organization's  mission under the guiding principles of Rotary International, which include providing service to others, promoting high ethical standards, and advancing world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.

Smith's career comprises more than 20 years of nonprofit, corporate and public sector leadership experience. Most recently, Smith served as corporate contributions manager for the AT&T Foundation in Dallas, where her responsibilities included oversight for grant programs across the Midwest and a $64 million budget.

Smith has held key board and committee leadership positions in the areas of community festivals, United Way programming, and children's and community service initiatives. She has also served as board secretary for Kellogg Company's two internal foundations the Kellogg Corporate Citizenship Fund and the Kellogg Company Twenty-five Year Employees Fund. She was a founding member of the Women of Kellogg Employee Resource Group and participated in the company's Leadership Mentoring Program.

“We are delighted to welcome Dawn Smith as the Rotary Club of Grand Rapids new Executive Director, said Rotary Club of Grand Rapids President James P. White.” The Club and our many philanthropic initiatives are already benefiting from Dawn's  extensive background in community service, mentoring, office and financial administration, and volunteerism. Her passion and deep sense of family and community are perfectly aligned with the culture of our Club and our city.”

A native of Battle Creek, Smith recently returned to Michigan to be closer to her two adult children and six-year-old grandson, who reside in the Grand Rapids area.
