HOLLAND — Chef Angie K Anderson finds meaning in the phrase “The American Dream” during the daily confrontations, demands, and achievements in her life. The American Dream, to her, is not only the glory of her achievement of owning and running her own restaurant, The Grass Cup Cafe´, but the pride and sense of accomplishment that comes from having successfully navigated through the difficult terrain of modern business in a challenging industry.

The biggest obstacles that Angie K has overcome in order to achieve the American Dream are the lack of both finances and of authentic support from traditional business entities.

Eventually, The Grass Cup Cafe outgrew the location that it had called home for the previous four years, and was relocated, renamed, and reestablished in a better suited larger building in downtown Holland. The opening of Blue House Bistro was a labor of love.

When the Blue House Bistro officially opened its doors it began Angie K's dream of serving up the best food in the region.

Angie K was the founder of and organizer for the 2006, 2007, and 2008 Downtown Graafschap Summer Celebration which is a festival celebrating the historic neighborhood and community surrounding The Grass Cup Cafe, and raising funds to help specific local families facing substantial illness and adversity. The celebration is still carried on by the committee she established.

Angie K  has volunteered her culinary skills for a month at the kitchen for Evergreen Commons.

Most recently, she became involved in the local chapter of the March of Dimes. She participated in the “Signature Chef” auction and fundraiser where she donated two catering packages valued at approximately $2200.00 to be auctioned off.

These activities are in addition to donating gift cards or gift packages to various causes, being known, by what seems like every child in the area, as the local “pet finder” which consists of being the one who knows and looks out for all of the neighborhood dogs and cats, and working on becoming more involved, as time permits, in the local leadership and professional organizations of the Holland area.
