GRAND RAPIDS - Lt. Gov. Brian Calley endorsed a statewide program by the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center (MI-SBTDC) and Fifth Third Bank that assists growing companies. The MI-SBTDC is located at the Grand Valley State University Seidman College of Business in Grand Rapids.
The program, Five Keys to Fiscal Fitness, was launched in 2009; in 2010, more than 225 Michigan companies completed the program. The MI-SBTDC said 25 workshops are planned this year, which means nearly 300 small businesses will be trained.
The program teaches business owners and CEOs how to analyze their financial information and make healthy financial business decisions. Topics include identifying opportunities and challenges, increasing cash flow, improving decision making and strengthening banker partnerships.
The Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center provides counseling, training and market research for businesses. As host of the MI-SBTDC State Headquarters, Grand Valley’s Seidman College of Business oversees the 12-region MI-SBTD network.
