GRAND RAPIDS - As an outstanding OEM source to many noted office furniture manufacturers for over 27 years; Gilmore Furniture Inc. announced that the company is well underway with an addition to its main manufacturing facility in the Grand Rapids area.

As other furniture manufacturers still close and consolidate facilities in Grand Rapids and elsewhere, 27-year-old Gilmore Furniture Inc. is expanding the plant it moved into less than 14 years ago, as the company’s product mix and sales continue to increase.

“Orders for products from our various new and established customers of contract furniture including: casegoods, upholstered seating and tables are steadily rising,” stated Robert J. Clark, spokesperson of Gilmore Furniture Inc. “Many business partners are beginning to view our factory as an extension to their own as requests for complete finished goods increase along with orders from completely new customers. These mandate physical expansion and the addition of approximately 15 new employees.“

Furthermore, the company plans to add full service metal fabrication services to the location that will serve new and existing customers in the furniture and marine industries.

Gilmore’s main facility is 68,000 square feet in a modern, one-story industrial plant and office near 28th street and U.S. 131 in Grand Rapids. The planned manufacturing addition is 21,000 square feet and 2500 square feet will be dedicated to additional office space. The company is expanding it for additional capacity. New machine tools are planned as part of the seven-figure cost of the expansion. This is the company’s fourth building expansion to its main manufacturing facility in five years.

“Grand Rapids is an ideal location because of its exceptional craftsman and the can-do attitude of its local citizens,” said Clark. “We hope to continue to grow and expand here for many more years to come.”

Gilmore Furniture Inc. was founded in 1983 by Grand Rapids native and furniture manufacturing entrepreneur Scott F. Gilmore.  Gilmore is also the owner and CEO of Grand Metal Products in Norton Shores and Cumberland Furniture in Grand Rapids. Gilmore Furniture Inc. supplies the contract office furniture industry with both furniture components and complete finished furniture product programs that including engineering, manufacturing, finishing and shipping.

About the CFMMI
The CFMMI provides a regional comparison with the manufacturing component of the Industrial Production Index (IPMFG) compiled by the Federal Reserve Board. Although the IPMFG is constructed differently than the CFMMI, it also uses electrical power and hours worked data as measures of industry output for about 60 percent of its total production index.
