GRAND RAPIDS — Two studies by Van Andel Research Institute scientists could help researchers gain a more complete understanding of distinct kidney cancer subtypes and lead to improved treatments.
Researchers Kyle Furge and Aikseng Ooi studied the biology of certain types of papillary renal cell carcinoma, an aggressive form of the disease that lacks any effective treatment. The study, published in Cancer Cell, was part of an international collaboration.
In another international study published in Cancer Research, Yan Ding and Bin Tean Teh were able to determine which genes are involved in the development and progression of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (CCRCC). Their findings helped spotlight a potential therapeutic target for CCRCC, according to a statement from VAI.
