DeKam and his team of commercial brokers focus on real estate deals in Southwest and West Michigan.
“I’m a real estate developer invested in West Michigan with no plans of leaving. While I’ve always been a stanch optimist, today I’m taking a much more global approach to our company investments and more carefully considering our back-up strategies should things not work out as planned. This differs greatly from just five to 10 years ago when we were fairly quick to tee-up a totally speculative real estate development based upon the financial strength of our investors, knowing with confidence that the market would fill the project if well-planned. That simply isn’t true today, but (it would) also (be) impossible to finance. We will not stick our neck out on speculative developments — or even extend ourselves on new purchases related to equipment, technology, marketing or human resources — beyond the cash flow that we are 90-percent confident or better that we have. Rather, our goals include continuing to cut overhead, eliminate debt and recapitalize our operations.”
