"Where
are you working now?" That question has been asked
of me many times and the answer was usually different. Because
of downsizing, temporary assignments, the wrong place, wrong
time, I’ve learned what works and what doesn’t
work. I also learned that I was on my own when searching
for
employment.
In 2001, I decided to take a more proactive role in my future.
I received my Career Development Facilitator certficate
from the Center for Credentialing and Education, Inc. an
affiliate of the National Board for Certified Counselors,
Inc. In the same year, I made a fourth attempt at my college
degree and returned to Baker College. By attending college
full-time and working full-time, I completed my Associates
degree in Marketing from Baker College in December 2003
and launched CHANGING DIRECTIONS in the same year
(February 2003). I also recently attended a three-day Careers
Conference at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and obtained
invaluable career coaching and private practice information
that has enhanced CHANGING DIRECTIONS.
No one should go through employment transition alone like
I did, so I made a decision to share what I’ve learned
so others can be better equipped when facing similar circumstances.
By offering seminars on resume writing and other topics,
career coaching individuals and offering
outplacement services to businesses as well as speaking
to high school students, and civic groups, people are becoming
empowered in their search for enriching work.
CHANGING DIRECTIONS is not a placement service or
recruiter. Rather, CHANGING DIRECTIONS helps people
who don’t know who to go to for resume help or what
to do next in their job search or even a career change.
